It was a hot summer afternoon in Verona. Italy. I was traipsing down an alley with my sons when we descended upon yet another gelateria. I picked melon gelato, or gelato di melone as it’s called in Italian (sounds so much fancier). As we walked away from the gelateria, I took a bite of the gelato. It was like I had a burst of flavor in my mouth. I could literally taste that ripe melon. I knew that this had no artificial anything in it. I had eaten plenty of gelato before that moment and God knows, I have eaten plenty after, but I have never experienced that burst of flavor again.
